So what is Reiki? How does it work? And what are the benefits?
Reiki (ray-key) is Japanese for ‘universal life energy’ this word also is described as energy healing. It was founded by a man called Mikao Usui in the early 20th century and evolved as a result of his research, experience and dedication.
In a Reiki session I the practitioner become a channel for concentrated life force energy through my hands unto another, some people feel sensations of heat, tingling, or experience seeing colours, while others can have an emotional response, indicating that shifts are taking place, allowing harmony to be restored. Often nothing is felt directly. Instead the body takes the time to incorporate the changes applied by myself and the benefits may not be felt until after a session is complete, sometimes even days later.
This hands on technique can release any unwanted blockages in the body enabling your energy to flow freely, when the energy flows freely throughout the body and the chakra centres are spinning and open, we feel well balanced and healthy, physically, mentally, emotionally and spiritually.
Each person experiences Reiki differently depending on their individual needs at the time. Benefits reported by recipients include deep relaxation promoting a calm, peaceful sense of well being on all levels.
A discussion will usually take place during an initial session with myself. I will describe the session to the client, give the client an opportunity to discuss any particular problems or issues they are experiencing and ask them what they are hoping to achieve from their session. For the actual session, the client will rest comfortably on their back with their shoes removed. Reiki can be performed with the client sitting comfortably in a chair as well. Unlike massage therapy, no articles of clothing are removed and a client is always fully clothed. A session can either be hands-on, where I, the Practitioner will apply a light touch during the session, or hands-off where I will hold my hands slightly above your body. If a client prefers not to be touched they can indicate this before I begin.
The session will then proceed with moving through specific standard Reiki hand positions beginning at the person’s head or feet. The session should be very pleasant, relaxing and invigorating.
